Hi, I’m Mekdes Welcome to my page!
I created this space to share with you how God is working in my life as I live in a foreign land with a pursuit of Christ. I was born and raised in Ethiopia and I moved to the U.S. for college and been here ever since. I’m married to my best friend Ermias and we have two beautiful kids.
Though, I left my home with the sole purpose of pursuing Jesus and serving him wherever he calls me, my journey quickly was met by a loneliness that demanded I not only leave my friends and family but the way I knew and worshiped God in order to fit in.
I found myself floundering to get back to my first love and the fight to hold on to the sweet, powerful and radical faith I once knew. Even though God used my experience here to teach me so much about himself and others, he also has put a burning passion in my heart to speak about the beauty of what I left behind.
I look back not because where I come from is perfect but because it has something valuable to contribute to the wholeness of THE BODY OF CHRIST. I talk about how my faith informs my views on missions, social Justice & Womanhood.
“As it is, there are many parts, but one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” Or again, the head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that are weaker are indispensable. And those parts of the body that we consider less honorable, we clothe these with greater honor, and our unrespectable parts are treated with greater respect, which our respectable parts do not need.” 1 Cor 12:21-24
